Changing an IP Address?
Ok, I have a gmail account, but I beleive regardless of what email provider you are with, your IP address is captured in all outgoing mail so that the person recieving the email can grab your IP address and by simply using an IP locator online, can pinpoint your destination. I was wondering if it’s possible to change my IP address in a way that it would affect the outgoing IP address on emails without having to buy software to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.!
Yes gmail does supply the IP as does yahoo mail, I’ve checked. When I type the IP Address in at http://www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm it tells the city, province and country where my address is located.
Well unfortunately, there’s no software which can effect the outgoing mails but you can do one thing, is to reconnect ur net after sending an e-mail. This will automatically change ur ip address( because every time u login in net, u r assigned a different ip address). This makes extremely difficult to trace down you.

You are mistaken in your belief that its easy to pinpoint the exact location of a person by using IP locator. You can pinpoint the general area not the actual address. If you are with AOL then you can’t even pinpoint the general address because all their DNS servers are in Virginia. To get the actual address of a person using an IP, you have to contact the ISP and the ISP won’t give out the details without a court order.
If you are still interested in cloaking your address, you can use a proxy server. Do a search for proxy server for the necessary info.

I don’t believe gmail shows the originating IP in the headers…they didn’t used to anyway. Send yourself an email and check. You may be surprised.
