How do I locate the American family that sponsored my mom in Mariel Boatlift?

My mom was taken in by a wonderful American family in Florida after she arrived from Cuba during the Mariel Boatlift. I would like to locate them, but I have no idea how. I just want to see how they are and tell them thankyou for giving my mother such a wonderful opportunity.

Check with the agency that settled her, or have her immigration papers show the address where she was released to

  1. I do not know if you can do this or not, but your mom can file a freedom of information act request for the sponsorship documents.

To find out how, write a letter to USCIS and mark on the outside of the envelope "FOIA Request." Give as much information as you can and offer to pay a reasonable search and copy fee.

  2. Look for any info about their first employer…SSN records and address may also provide clues…or Advertise with pictures on the Local papers.
