SmartLocator from NEC Engineering is an indoor location management system that uses infrared signals.
Infrared communication signals are not easily affected by the surrounding environment such as machines and fixtures made of metal and do not penetrate the walls or ceiling. The SmartLocator is a system that utilizes these characteristics of infrared communication signals to identify and manage the location of mobile terminals with a high degree of accuracy. ID transmitters installed on the ceiling transmit location ID as infrared signals, mobile terminals equipped with ID receivers receive those ID signals, and the mobile terminals then transmit the location ID to the location management server through a wireless LAN network.
